Your home is your canvas to create something beautiful but sometimes unique and beautiful items can be cost prohibitive.....especially here in God's country.
Here's how I create bespoke on a budget (aka 'found items') This blog post gives ideas for remaking your own unique art.
As you already know, we live on a farm....have for 20 years. We've raised a family of four in an eight room farmhouse baby (sing it John) and we've had the pleasure of sharing our lives with many animals along the way.
Above is a picture of the amazing Amber. She was the most extraordinary horse ever! She had the personality of a puppy -- she loved everybody -- and would let the kids ride her, lead her, stand on her, hide behind her and crawl underneath her without batting an eye.
So I'm pretty sure that when Christ returns (Revelation 19:11) he'll be riding THIS horse!
My first Design Board was actually inspired by a photograph of the boys with their beloved pony -- Lady.
It was a bed and linen line for kids using actual fabric that was quilted and painted before being wrapped around cardboard and glued to a presentation board.
Hey -- that's how we did back in the day!
So naturally when I found these lovelies, I brought them home and tried to find a place for them among my other junk.....I mean treasures. But they didn't look good anywhere I put them. I often find that sometimes when you have a bunch of eclectic curated items it can quickly look like dumpster diving instead -- not the look I'm after!
So.....I did something desperate and unthinkable....
I dug out my water based acrylic paints and started mixing the colors until I got what I was looking for.
Then I started applying them to the backgrounds of the lithographs.
I know this sounds desperate or brave (or stupid) but it was really easy and only took about five minutes.
When the color wasn't just right, I simply wiped it off with a wet rag and started over.
Sometimes I wonder.....where in the world do I come up with these ideas????
And then I remembered...
This is how they look now in my kitchen.....Notice how they are now part of the composition.
What do you think?
Art is a great way to add your personality, tell your story, inspire you and help pull it all together.
This was easy and you can do it too!
Until next time, Hugs & Blessings (Numbers 6: 24-26),
Project Update: I replaced the frames with a frame and mat combination I found at Michael's. Here is what they look like now:

About this blog...
I began writing this blog in May 2016 after discovering that my mother always wanted to be a writer. She has Alzheimer's disease and she'll never realize her dream. Sometimes in our deepest grief we are motivated to encourage others to fearlessly be themselves so that their gifts and stories are shared. I mean, how else can we change the world?. So I began to record the things that reflect who I am and what is important to me, because one day my memories too, may be gone and what would that mean to the people God gave me to care for and the good works He gave me to do? So, here is where I share the important stuff so that you can learn real design, not decorator tricks, but fundamental and salient concepts to apply so that you can create your own exemplary home and so that my family and I can remember the life we lived and created here in our home, our sacred place. Because my work is important, this is also where I share my favorite design projects and how good design enhanced their lives as well. I hope you're inspired and encouraged as I share my memories, my work, my mission & my life. Many blessings, (Numbers 6: 24-26)
