Interior Designer Elkhart Goshen Indiana
I believe we are all created in God's image (Genesis 3) and therefore we are all creative. But design is like any skill or talent - If you don't practice it, you won't master it. In addition, design is complicated. There are a lot of 'parts' that all depend on each other to function well and look good. So without a coach, your attempts might not meet your goals and expectations.
Another reason we might have difficulty designing is because it takes more than knowledge because you actually have to apply it! HGTV makes it look easy and the friendly sales person will tell you the same but in reality, design takes work, And from all the pictures I am seeing on the internet it looks like many folks could use a little help avoiding typical, costly design mistakes.
To make my point, I've collected a few google images - not to shame but to educate and dispel common design myths. (Hey - I'm all in for putting the fun back into function and for buying pretty on purpose - that's why I'm your best friend in the interior design industry). Hopefully these will inspire you to create a design plan before you begin your project.
I've tried to note the designer or photographer when it was available but if you recognize someone's work and I haven given them credit, just let me know and we'll change that!
Teaching and Coaching others to make great design decisions is the reason I started this business because a trustworthy, professional interior design advocate was not available to shepherd me through the process when I needed it. Now, I help others with their design projects as much or as little as they need me.
Hiring a designer might be a wise and sensible choice if you want to avoid typical and costly design mistakes. And it may make even more sense if you want a pulled together look and can participate in the design process.
Let me ask you this....how clear are you on what you want and need for your project? If you can't tell your contractor or the showroom/store clerk exactly what you need and want within one or two sentences, you'll end up buying what's put in front of you that only checks off one of your boxes. Here's the truth: your contractor and store clerk want to help but if they're good at their jobs, they don't have time to develop your ideas and create your design plans. Do you want to settle on the box they are selling? Below are four more boxes to consider that you probably didn't even think of - use them - please. They will help you get clear on what you want and need. If you're interested in more worksheets like this to help set all your design boundaries to ensure all your boxes are checked - schedule a design working session and I'll help you get clear on what you want and need. You're welcome!
Now you know!
If you think you might need a little design help, you're right - you do! I've solved a million design dilemmas that you haven't even thought of yet!

Sharing is caring Dawling! Interior Design isn't as easy as the big box store sales clerk says it is! Help someone else make intentional, big picture design decisions and avoid being sold the big ugly!

About this blog...
I began writing this blog in May 2016 after discovering that my mother always wanted to be a writer. She has Alzheimer's disease and she'll never realize her dream. Sometimes in our deepest grief we are motivated to encourage others to fearlessly be themselves so that their gifts and stories are shared. I mean, how else can we change the world?. So I began to record the things that reflect who I am and what is important to me, because one day my memories too, may be gone and what would that mean to the people God gave me to care for and the good works He gave me to do? So, here is where I share the important stuff so that you can learn real design, not decorator tricks, but fundamental and salient concepts to apply so that you can create your own exemplary home and so that my family and I can remember the life we lived and created here in our home, our sacred place. Because my work is important, this is also where I share my favorite design projects and how good design enhanced their lives as well. I hope you're inspired and encouraged as I share my memories, my work, my mission & my life. Many blessings, (Numbers 6: 24-26)
