Interior Designer Elkhart Goshen Indiana
Shape and form are part of the design elements interior designer's use to create beautiful, cohesive compositions using design elements - wait....I thought interior design was all about shopping for pretty items! Let's change how you think about good design!
When we think about shape, we think about a two-dimensional outline - often seen as a geometric figure, but form is an extension of shape and is actually the three-dimensional configuration.
.Why is this important? Because God made us visual creatures for a reason and form, just like all design elements, has the power to influence us to respond emotionally.
There are several kinds of shapes, such as rectangles, squares, triangles, circles and other geometric shapes or meandering, curved or angular shapes that do not fit neatly into geometry. But when these geometric planes are given a third dimension, they become forms such as cubes, cones, spheres or forms that are organic or curving.
The key to selecting forms is to balance them against the proportion and scale of the architecture and to select each form to either complement or contrast the other forms that are nearby.
This is another reason why design drawings are so important to projects - large or small. There are so many lines, shapes, forms, textures, patterns and colors in a single space that all need to be analyzed for the correct proportion and scale relative to each other - making it difficult at best to visualize how each one works together to create a harmonious situation. Especially when one person's idea of beauty could be different from your own. All of the design elements are equally important in creating architectural harmony for your canvas. That is why there are no 'rules' for interior design - only principles.
If you'd like some help visualizing & evaluating the shapes and forms in your space so you can get your canvas correct, please send me an email for more information.
I hope you've found this information incredibly helpful in understanding the interior design principal of shape and form - maybe even a light bulb turned on and you're beginning to change how you think about design! I'm all about light bulb experiences - that's why I created this blog and that's why I do design differently! Everyone deserves the benefit of coming home to a place where they can be renewed and recharged and reminded of God's faithfulness!
If you've experienced an 'A HA!' moment with what you've learned here, please share it with others and make the world more beautiful!

About this blog...
I began writing this blog in May 2016 after discovering that my mother always wanted to be a writer. She has Alzheimer's disease and she'll never realize her dream. Sometimes in our deepest grief we are motivated to encourage others to fearlessly be themselves so that their gifts and stories are shared. I mean, how else can we change the world?. So I began to record the things that reflect who I am and what is important to me, because one day my memories too, may be gone and what would that mean to the people God gave me to care for and the good works He gave me to do? So, here is where I share the important stuff so that you can learn real design, not decorator tricks, but fundamental and salient concepts to apply so that you can create your own exemplary home and so that my family and I can remember the life we lived and created here in our home, our sacred place. Because my work is important, this is also where I share my favorite design projects and how good design enhanced their lives as well. I hope you're inspired and encouraged as I share my memories, my work, my mission & my life. Many blessings, (Numbers 6: 24-26)
