This blog post if full of ideas on remaking vintage furniture. Check back often as I constantly am working on projects.
Some folks collect handbags, others have a fondness for jewelry & shoes, but I love the romance of antiques & vintage treasures because not only do they tell a romantic, relaxed story but they also are a potential work of art!
There is just something special about breathing new life into anything old--something at first glance looks worn out or dated and even ugly but if you let your imagination run just a little you can start to see the Cinderella story unfold into a one of a kind masterpiece!
The best place to shop for quality furniture on a budget is thrift stores, garage sales, estate sales, antique auctions and Craig's list. I live on a small farm in the middle of amishland USA so resources abound. And I love spending time at the Shipshewana Flea Market, and our areas many local Antique Stores and Resale Shops. There is always an ample supply of vintage treasures with a 'history' if you have the time and savvy to shop smart.
The old, gold and blue velvet chair was snagged for $25 at a local store.
Many times antiques need some type of update or repair. But if the 'bones' are good you can easily update your finds with either paint or a few yards of fabric, new high density foam, and simple embellishments.
At this very moment, I have several that are in storage that need some sort of makeover. But sometimes after updating them, I get so attached to them, that I want to keep them instead of finding them a new forever home (luckily they don't have big brown eyes and soft fluffy ears!)
For Example, see the two midcentury cane chairs below? They were nasty when I found them. With new foam and fabric they sing a new song.
I love and appreciate antiques and vintage furniture and believe every home should have some. Whether it is the ultimate personality chair or a crystal chandelier. Vintage pieces tell a story, create instant character and express your creative side.
If you'd like help finding and updating a vintage piece, or purchasing any of the chairs above, please contact me. I would love to help you find and reinvent the perfect piece for your happy ending.
Until next time ....keep making your world more beautiful!

About this blog...
I began writing this blog in May 2016 after discovering that my mother always wanted to be a writer. She had Alzheimer's disease and never realized her dream. Sometimes in our deepest grief we are motivated to encourage others to fearlessly be themselves so that their gifts and stories are shared. I mean, how else can we change the world?. So I began to record the things that reflect who I am and what is important to me, because one day my memories too, may be gone and what would that mean to the people God gave me to care for and the good works He gave me to do? So, here is where I share the important stuff so that you can learn real design, not decorator tricks, but fundamental and salient concepts to apply so that you can create your own exemplary home and so that my family and I can remember the life we lived and created here in our home, our sacred place. Because my work is important, this is also where I share my favorite design projects and how good design enhanced their lives as well. I hope you're inspired and encouraged as I share my memories, my work, my mission & my life. Many blessings, (Numbers 6: 24-26)
