Interior Designer Elkhart Goshen Indiana
I'd like to dedicate this post to everyone who has ever felt glassy eyed while standing in front of thousands of paint chips in the store!
The Number 1 Mistake everyone is making when choosing paint color!
My client's objective was simple, "Give us a new room with new color! We want a fresh look and feel".
Sounds easy enough doesn't it? I mean, selecting pain colors is easy right? So, what's the problem? Just ask everyone you know what color they've had success with and buy a couple gallons.
That's why this project is still one of my favorites because my client was a trade professional in the paint industry with over 40 years experience and was considered an expert in his field and yet couldn't get the color right!
The reason he couldn't get it right was because he wasn't trained to think like an interior designer. Choosing colors correctly is hard so don't feel bad if you get glassy eyed staring at all those color chips--you are not alone! I know most Interior Designers hate selecting paint colors!
And I understand why....because paint is either the least expensive or most expensive design decision you'll make.
Because it affects everything sweet-ums!
The color in your home affects your mood, productivity, and sense of well-being. And your well being affects......just about everything!
So please don't beat yourself up! It takes time and training to know how to use color properly in your space.
And because of misinformation, misunderstandings, lack of experience and so many choices, there is a lot more to just selecting a pretty or popular shade of paint. And from all the photos I am seeing on the internet, it looks like people could use some help - so you're not alone!
A little Before and after (above)
Because color is so important and because it affects everything, I created this worksheet to help you narrow down your choices.
Just download and print it off. It will help your focus (which if you are like me, you could use all the help can you get).
And here's how it helped my client (what they wrote on their thank you note to me)....
There are several reasons why this has been my favorite color consultation and it wasn't just because of the dramatic difference color made in the room. It was also because my client was very appreciative of the result.
She was constantly encouraging me and very supportive. She sent me notes and told me each time we met how the new room was blessing her.
This is important to any sensitive artist as we learn to discern the voices in our head. You know, the ones that say, "you have something worthwhile to share" versus the ones that say, "this is stupid and a waste--get a real job!"
Thanks for all the encouragement Charlene! You were the one that blessed me!
How do you feel about selecting paint colors? My one site color clarity sessions are one of my favorite design services because I love color and I love makeover stories - especially ones like Charlene's that point us to the Master Creator!
Contact me for help! We'll schedule a brief phone chat to see if we'll make a good fit and then go from there!

About this blog...
I began writing this blog in May 2016 after discovering that my mother always wanted to be a writer. She had Alzheimer's disease and never realized her dream. Sometimes in our deepest grief we are motivated to encourage others to fearlessly be themselves so that their gifts and stories are shared. I mean, how else can we change the world?. So I began to record the things that reflect who I am and what is important to me, because one day my memories too, may be gone and what would that mean to the people God gave me to care for and the good works He gave me to do? So, here is where I share the important stuff so that you can learn real design, not decorator tricks, but fundamental and salient concepts to apply so that you can create your own exemplary home and so that my family and I can remember the life we lived and created here in our home, our sacred place. Because my work is important, this is also where I share my favorite design projects and how good design enhanced their lives as well. I hope you're inspired and encouraged as I share my memories, my work, my mission & my life. Many blessings, (Numbers 6: 24-26)
